Jennifer Lopez: 'Maybe It's Time' to Leave 'American Idol'
by Andy NeuenschwanderHere we go again. Last year, when Jennifer Lopez finished up her first season of "American Idol" and brought the show renewed interest and ratings, she did a "will she or won't she" dance in her negotiations, leading us to believe that she was considering an exit from the show after one season. Of course, she stayed on for season 11, and made a whopping $20 million for it, too.
Now that season 11 is over, Lopez is trying the same trick again, teasing that she's really considering leaving the show this year.
In an interview on the Today show, Lopez mused, "I know everybody wants that definite 'yes' or 'no,' and ... all I can let you in on is my own thought process with it, because that’s where I truly am."
Lopez added, "I've just enjoyed it so much. But I am thinking that maybe it’s time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do. But then again I really love the show, so..."
It's pretty clear that Lopez is negotiating yet again with all this. The question is, will it work this time? "Idol" was desperate to bring the same team back after the successful season 10, but the ratings in season 11 took a big dive, with only about 2/3 of the usual audience tuning in. Will "Idol" be willing to cough up another $20 mil (or more) to keep Lopez on board?
It all makes the rumors about other potential judges seem a little more realistic, all of a sudden...
